Senior Babe Ruth: The Senior Babe Ruth program in Marlboro is a wood bat league for players ages 15 to 19 who are looking to continue playing baseball after the high school season is over. This is a very competitive league so teams will be selected after several tryouts are held during the month of May. Managers will select their players using the try-out criteria outlined on our web site, click here to view. Players from other leagues will be considered for the team, but we will be loyal to players making Sr. Babe Ruth their number one priority.
Lou Tompkins All Star Baseball: Lou Tomkins is a summer Babe Ruth league made up of teams from various towns around the state. This is an All Star traveling league and away games are in cities and towns up to one hour away from Marlboro. There are 3 divisions we participate in, A Division (15/16yo), B Division (13/14yo), and C Division (13yo). This is a very competitive league so teams will be selected after several tryouts are held during the month of May. Managers will select their players using the try-out criteria outlined on our web site, click here to view. Players from other leagues will be considered for the team, but we will be loyal to players making Lou Tomkins their number one priority.
Minuteman League: The Minuteman League is also played in the summer months but is structured differently from Sr. Babe and Lou Tomkins. This league is comprised of teams of players ages 13 to 16 from towns closer to Marlboro. Players who do not make the Sr. Babe Ruth or Lou Tomkins teams can participate in this league. The Minuteman League will require much less travel than Sr. Babe or Lou Tomkins and is better suited for those players who wish to play in a less competitive and more informal level. Most away games are within 15-20 minutes of Marlboro and games are only played Monday through Thursday (no weekends). Players will be put on the team on a first come first served basis. A waiting list may be used in the case where we have more players than we can roster.
Call Ups: Each summer league listed above allows for an expanded roster. This is a great opportunity for players on the Minuteman team to play on either of the travel teams in situations when the travel teams are missing players. Players from lower levels in Lou Tomkins may also be called up, similar to the way we do in Marlboro Babe Ruth.
SEEKING MANAGERS: The first step in forming teams is to secure good managers and coaches. Without them, we will not be able to participate in any of the programs listed above. If you would like to be considered as a manager or coach, please send an email to our Summer Baseball Director listed below, and we will put you on the list. Someone will be in contact with you soon.
Manager’s responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating try-out dates and times with the Summer Ball Director
- Attending any meetings held for Marlborough or the league in which you will be participating in
- Selecting your team using the try-out criteria outlined on our web page, click here to view
- Selecting your assistant coaches from the list of players on your roster
- All other manager responsibilities consistent with Marlboro Babe with will also apply
Registration Fees: There is a different registration fee for each level of play. The registration fee covers tournament fees, umpire fees, insurance, equipment, baseballs, and field maintenance and uniforms. We will provide specific fee information during the try-outs.
Games and Practices: The season begins around the third week of June and continues through the end of July. Lou Tomkins League plays one game during the week and two weekend games each week. The Sr. Babe and Minuteman Leagues play only week day games. Weekday games start at 5:45 (6:30 here in Marlboro) and weekend games start times will vary depending on the division. Teams can expect to play a “regular season” of 20 games for Sr. Babe and Lou Tomkins and 12 games for the Minuteman League.
Play-Offs: At the conclusion of the regular season, there will be playoffs in each league. Play-offs usually last about 7-10 days and usually include 2 weekends. The play-off schedules are usually posted by the first week of July.
